Amazon Brings Artificial Intelligence To Cloud Storage To Protect Customer Data
Amazon has become the first public cloud provider to blend Artificial Intelligence with cloud storage to help customers secure data. The new service dubbed Amazon Macie relies on Machine Learning to automatically discover, classify, and protect sensitive data stored in AWS. This service reports potential risks involved with the stored data, its permissions, and access patterns.
Amazon Macie’s key objective is to find and report sensitive data stored in the cloud that is not entirely secured. It goes beyond mere recommendation by analyzing the usage and access patterns. When Macie discovers that a new user from an unusually different IP address is accessing a document, it alerts the customers.
“Amazon Macie is a service powered by machine learning that can automatically discover and classify your data stored in Amazon S3. But Macie doesn’t stop there, once your data has been classified by Macie, it assigns each data item a business value, and then continuously monitors the data in order to detect any suspicious activity based upon access patterns,” Tara Walker, AWS tech evangelist, wrote on the Amazon Web Services blog.
